Urban Decay Stay Naked Hydromaniac review

Say hello to Urban Decay’s newest member of the Stay Naked family – the Stay Naked Hydromaniac Tinted Glow Foundation.  So many of us aren’t feeling the whole full face of makeup vibe these days and that’s where something like this comes in.  Described as a longwear, tinted glow foundation infused with kombucha filtrate and marula oil, those who love a fresh faced finish should take note.

Stay Naked Hydromaniac comes in 12 shades which mightn’t sound like a lot, but each shade is said to be flexible, and will work with different skin tones.  They sent me shade 20 and it’s a pretty good match for me right now as I’m super pale, but I think I could probably get away with shade 30 too.  It tends to look quite pale when I first apply it, but it settles down quickly, matching my complexion.

The texture of Hydromanic surprised me initially, as I was expecting it to be more fluid, but it’s quite thick.  It’s designed to be applied with the fingers and can be built up to give more coverage.  But because the texture is on the thicker side, I find it harder to blend it out fully just with my fingers.  So what I do is squeeze some directly onto my skin (usually I apply too much!) and smooth it over my skin with my fingers before going in with my makeup sponge to perfect the coverage.  This way gives me a more even and flawless finish.

I have an oily t-zone which can be prone to dehydration (a lack of water), and normal cheeks.  And I’ve found that this can highlight the dry patches on the top of my forehead and on my nose when I first apply it.  It seems less obvious once I let it sit a bit which could be down to the ingredients, so that’s encouraging.  But on the rest of my face, it looks beautiful.  I also find that it looks even better once it’s had a chance to sit on the skin.

A light layer helps to even out my complexion while still letting my skin shine through, but this builds easily too for more coverage.

As is normal for all of my foundation reviews, I like to try them with and without powder to see how they last.  Because Hydromaniac doesn’t set, without powder, my skin can feel a bit tacky, but it looks great until about the 4 hour mark.  At that point, it’s definitely powder time!  And with powder, it stays looking perfect for about 6 hours or so before I need to top it up.

I love the coverage it gives and how it makes my skin look, and it’s definitely a base I’ll continue to use as spring and summer hits.  Urban Decay Stay Naked Hydromaniac Tinted Glow Foundation is €32 and is available in Arnotts now!  Will you be picking it up?
