Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Mascara review before & after photos

If you’re a beauty lover like me, chances are you’ve been served the ads on social media for the Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Mascara. However, none of the ads I watched gave me much more information than the marketing blurbs on the website. So, I bought it to review and see if it really did live up to the hype! And let’s be honest, if there’s one thing the Tilbury team does, it’s create a lot of hype.

Charlotte Tilbury Exaggerating-Eyes Mascara – €32

I was surprised when I opened the box first to see that the mascara came in a glass bottle, and I went to their website for more information. I wondered if it was coming from a sustainability angle or if the product held up better in a glass bottle, but all I could see was that they described it as a “MAGIC GLASS BOTTLE” This is their caps lock, not mine! But seriously, magic?

This glass bottle, sorry, GLASS BOTTLE, is for “for formula preservation over time.” How much time? They don’t say. We’re advised to dispose of our mascaras after three months, but who actually does that? But I’d love more information on how the glass bottle preserves the formula and how much longer we get out of it compared to formulas in non-magical plastic tubes.

The brush is curved, with softer bristles on one side and harder on the other, which compares to other curved brushes I’ve used. I tend to use the inner part of the curve to apply the initial coat and the outer part to add more length. This brush works well at coating all of my lashes evenly without clumping.

Now, let’s talk formula because this is where the magic actually happens. They describe it as having “Lash Vinyl-Black Wrap Tech” which makes it sound like a tubing mascara, but they don’t claim it’s a tubing one. In my experience, it stays put like a tubing mascara and comes off easily with water like a tubing mascara, so I went to the ingredients and saw that it contains propanediol, an ingredient found in tubing mascara formulas.

I’ve always said that mascara reviews are my favourite to do because the before and after photos do the talking. So let me show you some before and after photos with the Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Mascara.

Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Mascara before & after

I think this mascara is great for volume, thickness, curl, lift, and separation and is one I’ll be turning to over and over. The photos above show what two coats are like on my lashes, and this builds beautifully. I’ve not needed to go any higher than the two coats.

I filmed a first impressions video using this mascara on Instagram and did a wear test that day. And since then, I’ve worn it with the same results. I don’t have any issues with smudging or flaking, and on the day I filmed that video, I’d been out for a walk for close to an hour. It was a hot and sweaty day, and it stayed put, which speaks volumes to me.

When removing the Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes Mascara, I like to wet my fingers with warm water and hold them on the lashes, pressing down gently as I swipe downwards, towards my cheek. The formula comes away from the lashes easily without me needing to rub or tug on them.

I think this is my favourite of the Charlotte Tilbury mascaras (so far, who knows what other magic they have up their sleeves). If you’re looking for a budge-proof mascara that really does give drama to the lashes, then it’s definitely worth checking out.
